Family Unit Services
Since June 2000, the Domestic Relations Division has offered supervised parenting time and home investigation services through the Family Unit. Referrals are made only by court order from a Butler County Domestic Relations Court hearing officer. The Family Unit Specialist is responsible for conducting both services and preparing written reports accordingly. The hearing officers utilize the written reports to determine the best interests of the child(ren) at question.
Supervised parenting time allows a parent, or other person entitled to contact, to have an opportunity for parenting or visitation when no other options exist and when that person would otherwise be denied contact with the child(ren).
Home investigations are ordered to ensure that a parent's residence is safe and that the household is an appropriate place for the child(ren) to live or spend time. Home investigations include onsite home visits, interviews, criminal and traffic record checks of all adult household members and school record check of all minor children involved.
