Case Types
Domestic Relations (DR) cases:
Parties may terminate their marriage through dissolution (O.R.C. §3105.61) which requires that both parties agree to terms, or through divorce (O.R.C. §3105.01) which may be contested or uncontested by the other party. In rare circumstances, parties may qualify for annulment of marriage (O.R.C §3105.31). Parties may also file for legal separation through the Butler County Domestic Relations Court (O.R.C. §3105.17).
Domestic Violence (DV) cases:
Parties who are determined by the Butler County Domestic Relations Court to be victims of domestic violence, or are in immediate danger of bodily injury from a spouse, former spouse, or household member, may be granted relief in the form of a Civil Protection Order. (O.R.C. §3113.31)
Domestic Support (DS) cases:
The Domestic Relations Division has concurrent jurisdiction with that of the Juvenile Division to hear cases to determine the custody, support, or custody and support of a child who is born issue of the marriage, who is not the ward of another court, and cases commenced by a party of the marriage to obtain an order requiring support of any child when no action for divorce, dissolution of marriage, annulment, or legal separation has been filed.
